Week Ten Assignment

1. Do some searching in Google Scholar and report on your findings

Given that my research question is "what is the efficiency of energy storage from PV solar cells", I used "PV energy storage" as a search term.
·      Find one article in Google Scholar that works for your topic. What is the APA citation?

      The APA citation is:

      Chiang, S. J., Chang, K. T., & Yen, C. Y. (1998). Residential photovoltaic energy storage system. IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 45(3), 385-394.

·      How many times has that article been cited by other scholars?

      It has been cited a total of 425 times by other scholars.

·      Click on the Cited by link and find another article that might be useful for your research. What is the title of that article?

      The title of that article is: "Energy management and operational plannign of a microgrid with a PV-based active generator for smart grid applications".

·       Go back to the first article you found and click on the “related articles” link and look for another article that might be useful for your research question. What is the title of that article?
      The title of the next article is: "Implementation of a DSP-controlled photovoltaic system with peak power tracking".

2. Reflection


      I was surprised at how simple it was to use this a research option, given that many research sites can become quite complicated with all of their tools and such. The biggest thing that I was surprised about was how easy it is to cite an article in 5 different options, one of which is APA. I would use this tool in the future because I regularly type up engineering lab reports that require outside sources, and these reports require that I site in APA format. Also, yes I do think I will be using the 'cited by' or 'related articles' links because I have the hardest time finding related articles to those which I find by a simple google search. This honestly changes a lot in my library database searching because I think I will start to use this to help with citing and finding other articles I may need.

    Ed,
    Glad you found GS to be useful. Just as a precaution you should always make sure that citation makers make correct citations. They don't always do that. This is a great resource along with the library databases. Gotta use all the sources you can to do your best!
